Most importantly however is the emphasis on health and fitness.
Cardiovascular endurance or, cardio for short, is the ability of the heart to provide oxygen to the muscles for an extended period of time.
Lung capacity increases and breathing becomes more efficient.
The heart pumps more efficiently and you will find that fit people have a much lower resting heart rate.
Resistance training (which is a better description than weight training) is the use of weights to provide a resistance that the muscles must overcome to lift the weight. Some resistance training simply uses ones own body weight
Resistance training is based on the principle that muscles of the body will work to overcome a resistance force when they are required to do so. When you do resistance training repeatedly and consistently, your muscles become stronger.
When designed properly a fitness program includes strength training to improve bone, joint function, bone density, muscle, tendon and ligament strength, as well as aerobic exercise to improve your heart and lung fitness, flexibility and balance exercises. Physical activity and sedentary behaviour guidelines recommend that adults do muscle strengthening activities on at least two days each week.
